We break down why you should take the UNDER on Baker Mayfield passing yards player prop bet for the upcoming 2022 NFL season.

Baker Mayfield Passing Yards Prop Bet: Why you should bet the under

Current Passing Yards Over/Under for Baker Mayfield:

#1 Reason to bet the Under:

The under looks like the bet to place simply due to questions about Mayfield’s availability throughout the season.

Early reports from training camp indicate Mayfield is healthy, but he’s missed time in each of the last two seasons due to an issue with his left shoulder and he has to be considered an injury risk moving forward.

#2 Reason to bet the Under:

Additionally, Mayfield will need to hold off Sam Darold for the starting job. There’s little doubt that Mayfield will win the job in Week 1, but what happens if the team hits a losing streak?

Matt Rhule is on the hot seat, and if he feels he’s on the verge of losing his job, a quarterback change could be a last-ditch effort to right the ship.

Carolina has a particularly tough four-game stretch in October, facing the Cardinals, 49ers, Rams and Buccaneers in consecutive weeks. That’s a brutal stretch which likely puts the Panthers in a hole they can’t dig out of, which means changes will be on the horizon.

#3 Reason to bet the Under:

Even if Mayfield outlasts Rhule, he’ll also have to contend with pressure for the team to play rookie Matt Corral late in the season.

Carolina’s bye doesn’t occur until Week 13, followed by a relatively easy three-game stretch against the Seahawks, Steelers, and Lions. If they want to get a look at Corral, that would be an ideal time for a change.

Mayfield likely needs a full season to hit the over on his passing yards prop, so with multiple paths to a seat on the bench, the under is the only option.
