  • 57.7% of the drives against Seattle have failed to gain a first down, the best rate in the league.
  • The Dolphins are one of three teams (Washington and Carolina, the others) that have not run an offensive play with the lead yet.
  • The Seahawks have allowed a rushing touchdown in 10 straight games going back to last season, the longest streak in the league.
  • Miami has averaged 4.1 yards per play on 289 snaps with Skylar Thompson under center compared to 6.4 yards per play with any other quarterback. That is the difference between being 1st in yards per play since 2022 versus 32nd.

Quarterback

Geno Smith: Smith has been a top-10 scorer in the season’s opening two weeks, closing Week 1 as QB9 (17.8 points) and this past week as QB7 (17.2).

He has gotten there in different ways: adding a long touchdown run in Week 1 and then delivering as a passer this past week in New England, throwing for 327 yards.

Seattle was forced to get aggressive in Week 2, going from a 46.7% dropback rate to a 71.2% rate this past week.

If Kenneth Walker remains out another week, Seattle may be pass-heavy again, but the implied game script is similar to what we had in Week 1.

Smith had 28 dropbacks in Week 1 and 47 last week, with the added overtime possession factored in.

The other dynamic in play is that Miami has faced the fewest pass attempts in the NFL through two weeks (40).

Even when Tua Tagovailoa was on the field, they never had the lead with him.

When opponents have thrown on Miami, they have had success.

Miami is 25th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.501).

They have allowed 7.5 yards per pass attempt (24th) and 12.0 yards per completion (25th).

Smith is a solid QB2 with more upside if Miami puts up a fight or Seattle struggles to rerun the football this week.

Skylar Thompson: Thompson is set to start his fourth career game on Sunday, with Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve due to a concussion.

Thompson has 183 career dropbacks in the regular season and playoffs.

On those plays, he has 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Among the 69 quarterbacks with 100 or more pass attempts since he entered the league in 2022, Thompson is 68th, with a 58.3 rating.

His 52.4% completion rate is dead last on that list, while his 5.1 yards per pass attempt is 67th.

In relief last week, Thompson went 8-of-14 (57.1%) for 80 yards (5.7 Y/A).

Thompson is the least desirable fantasy option of the backups playing this weekend.

The weapons and system are good enough to consider him better prepared this time as a starter, but he is only an option for 2QB formats.

Seattle has not been tested to open the season, facing Bo Nix and Jacoby Brissett, but they have at least done their job in those games, allowing a league-low 4.2 yards per pass attempt.

Seattle has also pressured passers 44.4% of the time, second in the league.

That will put this Miami offensive line to the test since Tua released the ball so quickly.
