Quarterback
Brock Purdy (TRUST): Purdy turned in an inopportune dud in Week 16. Not only for fantasy gamers but also for his MVP chances.
Purdy completed 18-of-32 (56.2%) passes for 255 yards (8.0 Y/A) with zero touchdowns and four interceptions.
Three of the four turnovers were on tipped or batted passes, but Purdy was out of sorts all night against Baltimore.
He picked up a stinger late in the game that kept him on the sideline, but Kyle Shanahan said that keeping him out of the game was precautionary given the state of the game and the San Francisco offensive line at that stage.
While the latter is still a potential issue in the big picture for this team, the 49ers are heading to Washington, which is the elixir needed to get back to turning in high efficiency through the air.
Washington is allowing a league-high 18.9 passing points per game, surrendering 7.7 yards per pass attempt (29th), 12.0 yards per completion (29th), and a league-high 6.2% touchdown rate.
Washington is 31st in the NFL in terms of pressure rate (30.3%).
When Purdy has not been pressured, he has completed 75.7% of his passes (second in the league) for a league-high 10.5 Y/A with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Sam Howell: Howell was set to be officially benched in favor of Jacoby Brissett, but Howell will now make the start with Brissett suffering a hamstring injury this week in practice.
Howell is only an option for 2QB gamers versus a disgruntled San Francisco defense that is second in the league in passing points allowed per attempt (0.308).
