  • Detroit is a league-best 16-7 (69.6%) against the point spread (18-5 overall) as a favorite under Dan Campbell.
  • Tampa Bay converted a league-high 69.2% (9-of-13) third downs in Week 1. The league average was 36.2%.
  • The Buccaneers had a 61.3% success rate per passing play in Week 1, the highest rate in the league.
  • The Lions had a 67.7% success rate per rushing play in Week 1, the highest rate in the league.
  • Baker Mayfield generated 1.0 EPA or more on 35.3% of his dropbacks in Week 1, which was 3rd in the league.
  • Mayfield had -1.0 EPA or worse on a league-low 5.9% of his dropbacks. The league average in Week 1 was 18.1%.

Quarterback

Jared Goff: Goff ended Week 1 as the QB18 (11.4 points) and the QB14 in passing points per attempt (0.381).

Goff was middle of the pack in just about every metric in Week 1, ending the week QB17 in EPA per dropback (-0.02) and QB16 in success rate (41.9%).

Goff is best used as a high-end QB2, but he does deserve another look as a back-end QB1 if you were playing him in 1QB formats to open the year.

Goff has a strong history against Todd Bowles

In his four games against a Bowles-led defense, Goff has scored 23.0, 22.4, 20.7, and 20.1 fantasy points.

He has thrown multiple touchdowns in all of those games.

With Detroit last season, Goff threw for 353 and 287 yards, completing 30 passes in each game.

Bowles is no stranger to sending what he can at Goff, blitzing him on 42.1% of his dropbacks.

The only quarterback that Bowles has faced as many times as Goff and blitzed more has been Jalen Hurts (43.7%).

But when Goff has faced the blitz in those games, he has a 103.9 rating and a 5.7% touchdown rate.

The Bucs are entering this week with a handful of defensive backs on the injury report.

Kliff Kingsbury was unable to take advantage of the injuries in Week 1, but this Detroit offense is a tough unit to defend at full strength.

Baker Mayfield:  Mayfield was incredible in Week 1, completing 24-of-30 passes for 289 yards and 4 touchdowns.

His 146.4 rating led the league while finishing the week as QB2 in fantasy scoring.

He led all quarterbacks in points per pass attempt (0.919) but was edged out by Josh Allen’s rushing output.

Mayfield has shown that he can be used in soft matchups like last week.

Is Detroit a soft matchup this season?

We need more to work off of, and Mayfield does not provide a lot of rushing equity for when things go poorly through the air.

Mayfield is another quarterback I would prefer to use in 2QB formats, but this matchup does offer shootout potential and upside altogether.

Mayfield was hit-and-miss in a pair of starts against Detroit last season.

When these teams played in Week 6, he was QB27, scoring a season-low 6.2 points.

When they faced off in the playoffs, he fared much better, scoring 23.5 points.

Detroit’s new pass defense opened the season strong, holding Matthew Stafford to 4.6 yards per pass attempt in the first half on Sunday Night.

Then they looked like last season’s Lions, allowing Stafford to connect on 18-of-23 passes for 8.6 Y/A and a touchdown after halftime.
