Quarterback

Anthony Richardson: We only had a small sample of Richardson a year ago, but Sunday was the same as what we saw from him as a rookie.

After leading all quarterbacks in fantasy points per dropback over his small sample size as a rookie, Richardson led all quarterbacks in points per dropback (1.13) in Week 1.

Sunday was the quintessential Richardson experience.

He makes plays that only he can make and misses plays that players with less talent than him make.

25.0% of Richardson’s dropbacks resulted in plays that generated 1.0 EPA or more, which was ninth among all quarterbacks in Week 1.

22.4% of his dropbacks also lost 1.0 EPA or more, 23rd among quarterbacks.

Richardson completed 47.4% (9 of 19) of his passes, ahead of only Bryce Young to open the season, but he threw touchdown passes of 60 and 54 yards while adding 56 yards and a touchdown rushing.

Richardson has now finished three games in the NFL.

In those weeks, he has scored 20.9, 29.6, and 26.1 fantasy points.

The Colts ran the fewest offensive plays in the league last week, and Richardson was the QB4.

This is the closest thing we have had to early-career Cam Newton, only Richardson is paired with a head coach who understands the assignment and a defense that forces them to score points.

Maybe the Packers struggle to put up a fight here without Jordan Love and the Colts run the ball a ton, but it is hard to view Richardson as anything other than a front-end QB1 for fantasy.

The Packers did a solid job in limiting Jalen Hurts to 33 yards rushing in Week 1, but they also gave up a handful of splash plays, something the Colts lived on in Week 1.

Green Bay allowed 8.2 yards per pass attempt in the opener (25th) and 13.9 yards per completion (28th).

Malik Willis: Willis is expected to start in Week 2 with Jordan Love suffering an MCL injury at the end of the season opener.

Willis made three starts as a rookie with Tennessee in 2022, closing those weeks as QB25 (7.2 points), QB21 (10.3 points), and QB31 (1.4 points).

Willis has thrown 67 passes in the NFL, completing only 52.2%.

Not only has Willis struggled with accuracy over his small NFL sample, but his real bugaboo has been negative plays.

Since entering the NFL in 2022, Willis has taken a sack on a league-high 18.3% of his dropbacks.

He has thrown an interception on 4.5% of his attempts, which is 70th out of 78 quarterbacks to throw 50 or more passes over that span.

14.9% of his passes have been inaccurate throws, which ranks 65th on the same list.

This preseason with Tennessee, Willis did complete 74.1% of his passes as a sign of improvement, but he still took a sack on 15.6% of his dropbacks and threw in an interception on 3.7% of his throws.

As a prospect, Willis is in the 33rd percentile in final season completion percentage and 27th percentile in TD-to-INT ratio for all passing prospects since 2000.

I am not confident in streaming Willis because I do not know if he can make it through the game before forcing a change due to negative plays.

That feels somewhat ironic after all we laid out with Richardson, but Willis has not shown the same highs in the NFL.

That said, Willis has not started a game since his rookie season, is a good athlete, and is paired with a coaching staff and surrounding playmakers that we believe in.

There is an upside outcome here for gamers forced to fill Love’s spot in 2QB formats or are letting things fly in DFS.
