Quarterback
Aidan O’Connell: The Raiders are playing in their second consecutive game of “slappers only” for fantasy purposes.
Depending on who is in the Saints' lineup, this game could be worse than last week’s against the Jaguars.
O’Connell is stuck as a fantasy QB2.
He has one QB1 scoring week in his starts.
He ended last week as QB25 (11.5 points) against a rough Jacksonville pass defense at home.
The Saints are third in passing points allowed per attempt (0.365) while the Jaguars are still last in the league (0.522), even factoring in O’Connell’s game last week.
Saints QB: Darren Rizzi has stated that Derek Carr could return over these final two weeks, but his status remains in the air for Week 17.
If Carr plays, he would have a shot at history.
Carr has lost a game to every NFL franchise except for the Raiders.
He has never faced them since he played nine seasons there.
As much of a punching bag that open was, the Saints have been markedly better with Carr this season than their backups.
They are averaging 5.8 yards per play with Carr on the field this season compared to 4.5 yards without him.
If Carr were to play, he would still be a back-end QB2, but he has more appeal than the team's decision to keep Spencer Rattler starting for another week.
Rattler has completed 56% of his passes for 5.7 yards per attempt with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
The Raiders do not have a good defense, but as we saw with Mac Jones as QB21 last week (13.9 fantasy points), the matchup cannot be the sole driver of fantasy points.
We also have several New Orleans skill players with unknown availability this weekend, leaving any quarterback here as a back-end QB2.
