NFL Pass Rate Over Expected (PROE) measures how much a team passes compared to the expected rate in every situation.

This tool shows the PROE for all 32 offenses and defenses, plus a matchups tab that shows which teams should be expected to throw the most each week of the NFL season.

2026 NFL pass rate over expected by team. Pass rate over expected is an offense's dropback rate minus the rate a typical offense would have had in the same situations (down, distance, field position, clock and score), in percentage points, so a positive number means the team calls passes more often than the situations call for. Sacks and scrambles count as pass calls. Defense is the same figure for the offenses a defense faced. Last 4 covers the team's last four games. Figures are centred so the league averages zero for the season.

Defense: How often opposing teams pass the ball compared to expectation
Matchups: Shows every offense vs. defense PROE each week

Teams shaded in green pass more than expected.

Teams shaded in red pass less than expected.

What is Pass Rate Over Expected (PROE)?

Pass rate over expected is a team's dropback rate minus its expected dropback rate, given the down, distance, quarter, and score-difference situation on every play.
