  • The Jets are last in the league in first downs created on first and second down plays (19.2%) while the Dolphins are 31st (21.2%).
  • The Dolphins are allowing a first down on 30.7% of first and second down plays, 31st in the league.
  • The Jets are allowing a first down on 21.6% of first and second down plays, third in the league.
  • The Jets are last in the league in yards per pass play (5.0) while the Dolphins are 31st (5.3).
  • Miami is allowing 9.0 yards per pass play, 32nd in the league.
  • Sam Darnold has a league-low 47.8 passer rating on throws 15-yards or further downfield, completing 11-of-37 (29.7%) passes with one touchdown and three interceptions.
  • The Jets are last in the league in yards created before contact (0.43) for their running backs and last in pressure rate allowed (44.4%) for their quarterbacks this season.

Trust (spike production for that player)

  • Le’Veon Bell: Bell has been the RB27, RB22, and the RB40 since Darnold returned to the lineup. He’s had just 15, 16, and 12 touches in those games after 22 or more touches in each of the first four games of the season. But if he can’t do it here, then we’re in trouble for the rest of the season. This is the best outlook Bell has had all season entering a game as Miami is allowing a league-high 181.0 yards from scrimmage per game to backfields and have allowed five 100-yard rushers in seven games.
  • Robby Anderson: Anderson made it through Tuesday still a member of the Jets and he’ll have his best outlook entering a game this season. Anderson has the most targets (22) since Darnold returned to the lineup, but is last in catchable target rate (53.9%) for the season. Miami is allowing 23.3% of their completions to go for 20 or more yards, the highest rate in the league while Xavien Howard reaggravated a knee injury on Monday to add to Anderson’s positive outlook.

Bust (down-week production for that player’s standards)

  • Mark Walton: He’s had 15 and 14 touches the past two games as he’s taken over the “Kenyan Drake” role for the Dolphins. The rub is that role was only a low-level FLEX play as it doesn’t come attached to goal-line opportunities due to the team lacking the potential to consistently get to that area of the field and when they do, Kalen Ballage is their goal-line back. The Jets are stout against the run, allowing just 3.3 yards per carry (second) to backfields.
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick: He’s played better in his second stint of action, completing 64.4% of his passes the past three weeks, but has still averaged just 6.9 yards per pass attempt and has finished higher than QB22 in one of his four starts on the season.

If You Must (intriguing bench option or deeper league play)

  • Sam Darnold: He’s thrown four touchdowns to eight interceptions in his three games since returning the lineup and has looked downright lost the past two weeks against New England and Jacksonville. The positive news is that Miami has been a fantasy elixir, allowing 15 or more fantasy points and multiple touchdown passes to all seven starting quarterbacks they’ve faced.
  • Jamison Crowder: Crowder has seven catches for 50 yards the past two weeks as his target share (16.2%) has come back down to earth recently with the Jets spreading the ball around. Miami is 24th in the league in defending opposing slot wideouts.
  • Demaryius Thomas: He’s had just as much opportunity than Crowder since Darnold returned, catching 12-of-18 targets for 167 yards the past three weeks with 231 air yards compared to Crowder catching 13-of-19 targets for 148 yards and 216 air yards. The matchup is great as Miami is 28th in points allowed per target (2.14) to opposing wideouts, but the main question Is just how many players here in the Jets’ offense can Darnold support in one game?
  • DeVante Parker/Preston Williams: The Jets are good versus the run, but are giving to opposing receivers, ranking 25th in the league in points allowed per game to the position (38.4), while ranking 20th in points allowed per game to boundary receivers. Fitzpatrick has targeted Parker 30 times (15-200-2) this season and Williams 28 times (19-250-1).
  • Ryan Griffin: With Chris Herndon looking unlikely to return to the lineup, Griffin will continue to play heavily. Griffin has played 92% of the offensive snaps this season. Griffin only has nine targets in three games with Darnold, but he has three red zone targets and three touchdowns. Miami is 30th in yards per target allowed (9.4) to tight ends this season despite allowing just one touchdown to the position.
