  • The Jaguars average 122.9 fewer yards per game than their opponent, the worst differential in the league.
  • The Texans have a 34.5% success rate on early down plays, last in the NFL.
  • 27.6% of the Houston set of downs reach third and long (needing 7 or more yards), 31st in the league.
  • 41.7% of the Jacksonville drives have failed to gain a first down, 31st in the league.
  • Only 23.9% of the drives against Jacksonville have failed to gain a first down, 29th in the league.
  • The Jaguars have converted 37.5% (12-of-32) of their third and short (needing 3 or fewer yards) situations, the lowest rate in the league. The league average on those downs is 58.1%.
  • Jacksonville has averaged a league-low 1.31 points per drive since Week 8.
  • The Jaguars have averaged 4.7 yards per play over that span, ahead of only the Raiders (4.5) and Bears (4.5).

Trust = spike production for that player

Quarterback

C.J. Stroud (TRUST): Stroud scored more fantasy points on Sunday (15.7) than he had in a game since Week 6, but it was still only good for a QB14 finish in a week in which only 26 teams played.

Stroud has now dipped to 28th in the league in completion rate (63.1%), 21st in yards per pass attempt (7.3 Y/A), and 27th in touchdown rate (3.5%).

He has been sacked on 9% of his dropbacks (30th).

Houston has a 46.8% dropback rate on early downs with Joe Mixon in the game, which is 26th in the league.

If all that does not excite you, Stroud has not finished a week as a QB1 scorer since Week 4.

But this spot is as good as we may get again for Stroud’s prospects as a QB1.

That QB1 game did come against Jacksonville, a team we have not only picked on all season long, but Stroud has also beaten up for three QB1 scoring weeks over three matchups.

Stroud was QB7, scoring a season-high 23.5 points when these teams played in Week 4 after he closed as the QB4 (30.9 points) and QB10 (20.6 points) in this matchup in 2023.

The Jaguars have allowed the most passing points per attempt (0.558) and passing points per game (18.9).

The Jaguars have allowed the 2nd-most points over their opponent's average entering the matchup, so they have pushed opponents up.

The last time we saw the Jaguars, they allowed 14.2 yards per pass attempt to Jared Goff.

Trevor Lawrence: Lawrence opened the week practicing after missing the past two games and having a bye week to work through an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

The team has not officially cleared Lawrence to play, so we will follow his status throughout the week.

But we will be optimistic that he can play this week since we don’t need to break down Mac Jones.

If Lawrence does play, he will return to a lineup that has lost Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis at wide receiver for the remainder of the season.

While not exactly losing Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell, Lawrence was already inconsistent in throwing the ball with those players on the field this season.

Lawrence comes out of the bye 33rd in the league in completion rate (61.3%), 19th in yards per pass attempt (7.3 Y/A), and 21st in passing points per attempt (0.409).

Lawrence is a 2QB with all the moving parts on offense and returning from injury.

When these teams met in Week 4, he was QB15 (14.8 points), completing 18-of-33 passes (54.5%) for 5.1 Y/A with 2 touchdowns.

Houston has good top-down metrics against the pass but continues allowing huge weekly plays.

The Texans have allowed the lowest completion rate in the league (56.2%), but they have also allowed 11.9 yards per completed pass (26th) and a league-high 6.2% touchdown rate.

They have allowed the most touchdowns outside the red zone (14).
