Trust = spike production for that player

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes: Mahomes left a good matchup on the table last week, completing a season-low 56.5% of his passes with 1 touchdown.

He still posted 306 yards passing (his second game with 300 yards this season) but ended the week at QB18 (16.6 points).

Mahomes has two top-10 scoring weeks on the season and closed as the QB16 or lower in 8-of-12 games.

There are six teams on bye this week, but Mahomes is still a floor-based QB2 in this matchup.

We will take it if we run into an upside outcome, but there is nothing objectively in place to chase here.

The Chargers have allowed 11.4 passing points per game (5th).

We have questioned their schedule influencing those numbers, but that sample includes Mahomes.

Mahomes was QB18 (13.0 points) when these teams played in Week 4.

In that game, he completed 19-of-29 passes for 245 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

If you're looking for an upside angle outside of this week's six quarterbacks being removed from the field, the Chargers are 26th in rushing points allowed per game (3.8) to quarterbacks.

Justin Herbert: After a five-game run as a QB1, Herbert flatlined on Sunday.

He ended the week QB31 (8.0 points).

One thing that I was guilty of was overvaluing Herbert entering last week because of how he had been scoring fantasy points in recent weeks.

He had rushed for 29 or more yards in four of those five games.

While Herbert rushing for yardage is great, we must remember that his mobility is icing on the cake.

He is not the archetype of a quarterback where the cake is made via his rushing output because he is a thrower first.

And this passing game has been bad since the second half of that Cincinnati game in Week 11.

Over his past 10 quarters of football, Herbert is 44-of-81 (54.3%) for 479 yards (5.9 Y/A) with 0 touchdowns through the air.

The other element we got comfortable with was the surrounding skill players in this offense playing good football, but outside of Ladd McConkey, this is still an offense lacking front-end talent.

If McConkey is playing at less than 100%, we are asking Herbert to do a lot of lifting again this week.

I do not want to discard Herbert’s hot stretch completely, but he is on the road here with a team total of just below 20 points.

This is not a screaming spot to handle him as more than QB2.

Herbert was QB23 (11.2 points) when these teams played in Week 4.

The positive spin is that he could run again at any moment, and this Kansas City defense has been more lenient in recent weeks, providing a higher floor.

The Chiefs have allowed 15 or more fantasy points to a quarterback in 7 straight games, a list that includes Aidan O’Connell (19.6 points), Bryce Young (16.5), Bo Nix (16.1), and Gardner Minshew (15.0).
