  • Since entering the league in 2014, Derek Carr is 43rd in completion rate (48.3%) inside of the 10-yard line. Last season, he was 27th in completion percentage (43.8%) in that area of the field.
  • Chris Olave’s 3.23 yards per route run with pre-snap motion are second behind only Tyreek Hill over the last two seasons. His 3.38 yards per route run with the use of play action is seventh at the position.
  • Over the past three seasons, Alvin Kamara’s 8.7% explosive run rate ranks 65th at the position after he posted a 13.6% rate over his career to that point.

2023 Saints Stats (NFL Rank):

  • Points: 402 (9th)
  • Total Offense: 5,732 (14th)
  • Plays: 1,121 (4th)
  • Yards Per Play: 5.1 (19th)
  • Offensive TDs: 41 (10th)
  • Points Per Drive: 1.96 (11th)
  • Situation Neutral Pace: 28.1 (12th)

2024 Saints Coaching Staff:

  • Head Coach: Dennis Allen
  • Offensive Coordinator: Klint Kubiak

The numbers for the Saints overall were fine last season.

They were 19th in yards per play, 11th in points per drive, and ninth in total points.

They struggled against the best teams on their schedule, though, averaging 1.62 points per drive (21st) and 4.8 yards per play (24th) against playoff competition.

Moreover, the passing game did not do everything it could to create easy opportunities for the playmakers.

Klint Kubiak will be a welcome addition compared to the approach New Orleans’ passing game took in 2023.

In 2023, the Saints were dead last in the NFL in the use of play action (14.4%) and pre-snap motion (22.8%).

In 2023, pre-snap motion added around 10% to yards per route run for wide receivers while the use of play action added around 31% compared to a static offense.

Serving as passing coordinator in San Francisco last season, we are hoping Kubiak brings over more of what Kyle Shanahan does offensively.

San Francisco was second in the NFL in use of pre-snap motion (67.3%) and 16th in play action rate (23.2%).

Kubiak only has one year of calling plays in the NFL, back in 2021 with the Vikings.

In that season, Kubiak’s offense was 12th in the NFL in pre-snap motion (43.4%) and 18th in the use of play action (25.5%).

Even if those held up for 2024, there would be huge positive shifts compared to the 2023 rates for New Orleans.
