  • Jayden Daniels rushed for 60.1 yards per game over his collegiate career with 34 touchdowns, registering a 96th-percentile career rushing score.
  • Brian Robinson Jr. converted 69.0% of his short-yardage runs into a first down or score, which ranked 14th among 49 running backs with 100 or more attempts on the season.
  • Austin Ekeler’s 3.9% explosive run rate last season ranked 47th out of 49 running backs to run the ball 100 or more times. His previous career-low was a 10.7% explosive rate back in 2021.

2023 Commanders Stats (NFL Rank):

  • Points: 329 (25th)
  • Total Offense: 5,317 (24th)
  • Plays: 1,060 (19th)
  • Yards Per Play: 5.0 (22nd)
  • Offensive TDs: 38 (14th)
  • Points Per Drive: 1.67 (24th)
  • Situation Neutral Pace: 28.7 (24th)

2024 Commanders Coaching Staff:

  • Head Coach: Dan Quinn
  • Offensive Coordinator: Kliff Kingsbury

While Kliff Kingsbury does not have the best reputation after his time with the Cardinals, he did have some success in Arizona.

Over the 2020 and 2021 seasons, the Cardinals were eighth in points per drive, 12th in yards per play, and 11th in EPA per play.

All of those would be a big step up from where the Commanders were last season.

Over those two years, the Cardinals were fifth in total pace and first in no huddle usage.

The Commanders were 17th in pace last season and even worse when accounting for game script.

Things obviously did not go as well for Kingsbury in 2022, but there is at least hope he can implement an offense that moves faster, runs more plays, and is more successful with a high-upside rookie quarterback running the show.

It is also worth noting the Cardinals had a quietly solid running game, which might not be obvious given Kingsbury’s history with the Air Raid.

Before the wheels fell off in 2022, the Cardinals were 14th in yards per carry on running back runs and ninth in explosive run rate under Kingsbury.

They were 25th in total running back runs over those three years, but this running game is in better hands than it might seem given the coordinator’s background.
