This preview includes advanced stats, the fantasy football outlook for C.J. Stroud, Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Joe Mixon, and every other notable Texan as well as in-depth analysis of the coaching staff, passing game, and rushing attack.

- C.J. Stroud was only a top-six scorer in two weeks last season in part because he averaged 2.3 rushing points per game, 15th among qualifying quarterbacks.
- Nico Collins was second in the league behind Tyreek Hill in yards per route (3.11) last season.
- Although he did have more long runs last year, Joe Mixon ranks 46th in explosive run rate and 28th in negative run rate among 72 qualifying running backs over the last two seasons.

2024 Texans Coaching Staff:

Coming over from San Francisco, Bobby Slowik unsurprisingly adopted a similar scheme to the one utilized by Kyle Shanahan in his first season as the offensive coordinator.
The 49ers passed on 51% of their early downs in the first half last season. The Texans were at 52%.
The 49ers were 2.2% under their expected pass rate last season. The Texans were 2.6% under.
The 49ers were second in the rate of motion. The Texans were sixth.
We know what Slowik would like to do, but the issue is the Texans were not able to run with the same efficiency into the heavy boxes that this approach creates on early downs.
The 49ers were first in success rate and yards per carry on their early down runs in the first half.
The Texans were 28th in success rate and 27th in yards per carry.
Houston brought in Joe Mixon over the offseason and will hope a healthier offensive line improves the running game, but Mixon has been an average back over the last several seasons.
The Texans’ other big addition this offseason was Stefon Diggs, an acquisition that could point to the team leaning more into 11 personnel (60.3% last season, ranked 23rd) and letting sophomore phenom C.J. Stroud loose.
